Anirban Halder obtained his PhD in American Studies from the Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz, Germany, 2019. His doctoral dissertation "Slow Engagements: Patient's Perspective in Narratives of Chronic Illness" was entirely funded by a three-year fellowship from the German Research Foundation (DFG, 2014-17), and a teaching assistantship at the Obama Institute for Transnational American Studies, Mainz University, Germany.The dissertation examined a narrative impulse in first-hand experiences of chronic illnesses like PTSD, thalassemia, HIV, and endometriosis and the implications of these experiences in contemporary North American literature and culture. His areas of interest include medical humanities, postcoloniality, and Indian Writing in English. Halder holds master’s degrees in Comparative Literature and English from the University of Western Ontario, London, Canada (2011) and Jadavpur University, Calcutta (2008) respectively. He received his undergraduate degree in English Literature from St. Stephen’s College, Delhi University (2006). When he is not reading, writing, or teaching, he enjoys watching the grass grow and taking care of his plants.
