DR. NAVIN KUMAR JHA

A graduate with a first-class degree in Economics Honours from TNB college, Bhagalpur, Dr. Jha had his Postgraduate and Ph.D. from BRA Ambedkar Bihar University. Dr. Jha has a total of 20 years of teaching experience at degree and Masters level in different prestigious institutions. He served for more than a decade at the Royal University of Bhutan, where he received the Civil Service award of the Royal Government of Bhutan in 2015. Prior to joining Sister Nivedita University, he served as an Associate Professor in the Department of Economics, Christ University, Bangalore. His research interest and areas of specialization include Public Policy, Macro Economics, Economic History, and Health Economics. He has published 19 research papers in national and International reputed peer-reviewed journals. He has presented 14 research papers in national and international seminars and conferences. He has also authored a book on the problem of Child Labor. Dr. Jha has supervised research work of Post-Graduation and MPhil students. He has also developed a curriculum of Economics Honors and MA Economics for Sherubtse College, Royal University of Bhutan.

Arup Kumar Chattopadhyay

Dr. Arup Kumar Chattopadhyay has more than 39 years of teaching/research experience in different academic institutions and also has professional experience at managerial level in banking industry. Currently he is serving Sister Nivedita University, Kolkata in the capacity of Emeritus Professor after his retirement from the substantive post of Professor of Economics at the University of Burdwan (where he served as Professor since November 2006, i.e., for more than 16 years). Formerly he was the Head of the Department of Economics at the University of Burdwan, West Bengal, India. He also served the University of Burdwan in the capacity of Dean, Faculty of Arts, Commerce, Law etc. for nearly five years. He initially joined to the post of Reader in Commerce at the University in March 2000 and became the Head of the Department of Commerce, B.U.

Chattopadhyay started his career in 1982 at Punjab National Bank as Management Trainee (popularly known as Probationary Officer) and developed expertise in operations management in banking. From October 1983 to December 1994 he served as Lecturer/ Senior Lecturer in Economics at two Under Graduate Colleges of West Bengal, namely Ashutosh College, Kolkata and V.S. Mahavidyalaya, Manikpara. He then joined the Department of Commerce at Vidyasagar University, Midnapore in December 1994 as Senior Lecturer (and subsequently promoted to the post of Reader) in Commerce. His total teaching experience at University level is more than 28 years and as a teacher his ratings by the students always remained very high. In teaching he has developed his Core Competence in the areas like, • Financial Economics, • Mathematical Economics, Econometrics and Statistics, • Public Finance and • Operations Research.

  Dr. Chattopadhyay also performed different administrative activities in the institutions of higher learning. He was the member of Governing Bodies of different Under Graduate Colleges and served as the President at Shyamsunder College of Burdwan. He also acted as member of Executive Councils and Courts of different Universities. He actively participates in different U.G. and P.G. Councils/Boards of Studies for preparing & revising course curricula and suggesting examination reforms. He regularly evaluates Ph.D. theses, reviews research articles and performs examination related usual activities. He is also regularly deployed to perform confidential activities of the Govt. of India at New Delhi and also of different State Governments.

In regard to his academic records he completed his Ph.D.[ 1998] work in Agricultual Economics from Vidyasagar University. He stood First in First Class (Gold Medalist) in M.A. [ 1979]   in Economics from the University of Burdwan, Burdwan and also he was a rank holder both in B.A. (Honours) [ 1977] in Economics and in school leaving examination. Apart from authoring a number of books, more than 100 research articles have been published by him in different national and international journals of repute. He regularly participates national as well as international conferences/seminars, in some of which he has delivered keynote address and acted as chairperson. He also delivered invited talks, acted as visiting professor and attended faculty development programmes and workshops as resource person. A good number of research scholars (exactly 18) have successfully completed their Ph.D. theses under his supervision. Currently six Ph.D. scholars are pursuing their research work under his supervision. He also supervised a good number of M.Phil. scholars in their dissertation work. He has successfully completed a good number of research projects funded by the U.G.C., UNDP and State Government.

 

DR. KALPITA RAY

Dr. Kalpita Ray is a UGC NET qualified scholar (2018) and has been awarded with a Ph.D. in Industrial Economics from the University of Kalyani, West Bengal in 2019. She has completed her Masters in Economics (with specialization in Econometrics) from Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata (2011) and has pursued her Graduation as B.Sc (H) in Economics from the University of Calcutta (2009). Her area of research interest includes Democracy and Labour Economics besides Industrial Economics. She has accomplished a couple of research-cum-publication work on the issues of rights of Muslim women in India in some reputed journals and edited books. She has also actively participated and presented key research papers in different conferences among top institutions. Before joining Sister Nivedita University, she had worked as a Guest Lecturer in Dept. of Economics in Bangabasi College, Kolkata (2012-2016), covering a wide range of topics among students in different streams (Hons. and Pass course).

Dr. Gopa Ghosh had joined Sister Nivedita University in September 2019. She received the degree B.Sc. (Hons.) in Economics from Bidhannagar College in 2007 and pursued her M. Sc. from the Department of Economics, Calcutta University in 2009. She has done M.Phil from Jadavpur University (2012) under the guidance of Prof. Joyashree Roy and her research work was on the Status of Mitigation Strategies of Manufacturing Industries for West Bengal. She is UGC- NET qualified. She has done her Ph.D. Degree under the guidance of Prof. Madhumati Dutta from the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology (IIEST), Shibpur in April 2019, and the title of her thesis is “Using Decomposition Analysis to Determine the Causes of the Increased Use of Energy in Production: A Case Study of West Bengal”. She has also published research papers in different peer-reviewed journals and edited book till date and presented her research paper in national and international seminars. She has the knowledge of database of official statistics; CSO database, National Industrial Classification Code (NIC), database of Energy Statistics, Census of India, RBI database, database of Statistical Abstract, and Statistical Handbook of West Bengal and India. Her research interest includes Energy Economics and climate change and Environmental Economics.
