ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

The Department started imparting instructions with the most modern curriculum and syllabus to the students for undergraduate and postgraduate courses in 2018. The Department maintains an excellent teaching/learning and research environment with dedicated, qualified and dynamic faculties and well equipped laboratories.

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) embodies the university's tradition of excellence in engineering education. CSE is in a period of exciting growth and opportunity. CSE Graduates capture leading academic appointments as well as opportunities in renowned computer industries, data analytics, and business analytics. The department of CSE offers two UG courses such as B.Tech in Computer Science and Business System (CSBS) collaboration with TCS and B.Tech in Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) collaboration with IBM.


The newly built laboratories of the department include a highly sophisticated Machine learning laboratory, Database laboratory, VLSI laboratory, Embedded Systems laboratory, Soft computing and Networking laboratories. Robotics, mobile communication, and natural language processing are the broad areas into which the researchers have made a foray.

Department of Computer Science & Engineering aims to create a promising environment for producing skilful professionals by making students aware of the modern industrial need. The Department will also encourage fundamental and innovative research in the field of Computer Science & Engineering.

Computer Science Engineering (CSE) is a popular educational course that emphasises on the basic key elements of computer programming as well as networking. Many engineering aspirants have been opting for this specialisation as this course allows them to gain knowledge and ideas of design, its implementation and overall management of information systems in case of hardware as well as software. The employment opportunities have definitely been on the rise with the introduction of Computer Science Engineering courses across top Engineering Colleges. Mousumi Bhattacharyya is presently working as an Assistant Professor of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Sister Nivedita University, Kolkata. She is pursuing Ph.D. in Computer Science and Engineering from Sister Nivedita University. She received the Master of Technology in Computer Technology from the JadavpurUiversity in 2009. She has 18 years of teaching experience. She is a member of CSI chapter, Kolkata.Her research area is sentiment analysis, deep learning and machine learning.

SWARUP KUMAR GHOSH

Swarup Kr Ghosh is presently working as an Assistant Professor of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Sister Nivedita University, Kolkata. He is pursuing Ph.D. in Computer Science and Engineering from Maulana AbulKalam Azad University of Technology. His Ph.D. thesis submission is under process. He received the Master of Technology in Information Technology from the University of Calcutta in 2013. His teaching experience comprises 8 years and 9 years in research. He has published more than 30 research articles in various reputed journals (SCI/SCIE/ESCI) and conference proceedings. He is also a reviewer of some reputed journals like IEEE Transactions on Medical Imaging, IEEE Access, Artificial Intelligence Review—Springer, Multimedia Tools and Applications—Springer, IET system biology, IET image processing, The Computer journal- Oxford Academic, International Journal of Image and Graphics. His research interests include Bioinformatics and Computational Biology, Medical Imaging, Machine Learning and Soft Computing.

He was previously associated as Assistant professor in some prestigious institutes like National Power training Institute (ER) Durgapur. He was also research assistant in Indian Institute of Management Calcutta, Kolkata.

Joy Dutta is presently working as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Sister Nivedita University, Kolkata. He holds a BSc degree in Physics (Honours), followed by Post BSc BTech and MTech in Computer Science & Engineering from Calcutta University. He is a recipient of Government of India’s prestigious full-time Research Fellowship, viz., “Visvesvaraya PhD Fellowship” of Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY) for pursuing his full-time research from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Jadavpur University and currently awaiting for his PhD degree from the University.

Mr. Dutta has the exposure of working in both the industry as well as in academia. His research interest is primarily in the domain of Internet of Things (IoT). He has rich experience in the domain of Cloud Computing, Machine Learning, Data Analytics and Smart City based applications for social good. He is a member of IEEE and also an active researcher in this domain. He has published several research papers in different international conferences, journals and also written multiple book chapters for the global research audience.

Dr. ANIRBAN MITRA

Dr. Anirban Mitra has received Bachelor of Science (with honors) degree in Computer Science in 2005. He has completed Master of Science in Computer science and Master of Technology in Computer Science Engineering from the University of Calcutta, India in 2007 & 2009 respectively. He is awarded Doctor of Philosophy for his research in the domain of Medical Image Processing from the University of Calcutta in 2021. The topic of his PhD was “Glaucoma Analysis & Detection from Retinal Images”.Currently, He is working in the position of Assistant Professor at Sister Nivedita University in the department of Computer Science and Engineering. Since 2009 to 2021, he worked for the Department of Computer Science & Engineering of Academy of Technology as an Assistant Professor. He was also appointed as Vice-Chief-Coordinator for “Lecture Plan Review Committee” of this institute since 2014 to the last date.His research interests cover Medical Image Processing, Geometric Algebra, Cryptography and IOT. He has several conference and journal publications under IEEE, ELSIVIER, SPRINGER and others proceedings on Image Processing, Video Processing and Clifford Algebra. He is a member of IEEE and IEI. Under his supervision a project entitled “A Secured Child Care System Using RFID in IOT”, Project ID: DUG2017031. Funded by IEI, 2017-2018 is successfully completed.He was the Convener of IEEE Third International Conference on Computer, Communication, Control and Information Technology (C3IT-2015). He has conducted the workshop regarding syllabus drafting for the course titled “Web Designing and Development” of UGC sponsored Community College Scheme for Derozio Memorial College. ASMITA ROY

Asmita Roy did her M.Sc in Computer Science from St. Xaviers College, Kolkata. She received a M.Tech degree in Information Technology from Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology. She is a Silver medalist from the University. She was awarded the Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme (TEQIP) (a Govt. of India project assisted by the World Bank) scholarship for carrying out her PhD. work from Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology, West Bengal. She served the University as a Research Assistant in the department of Computer Science of Engineering for 3 years. She has submitted her Thesis and is waiting for her degree.


She was previously associated as Assistant Professor in some of the University affiliated colleges. She has an adequate experience in teaching students of different disciplines. She has a rich research portfolio with over 20 published articles in international journals and conferences of leading publishing houses like Elsevier, IEEE, Springer and ACM with impact factor as high as 5.570. During her tenure as Research Assistant, she was associated with Network Security project under Information Security Education and Awareness (ISEA) Phase – II, a MeitY funded project. Her research interests are Cloud Computing, Cognitive radio and Mobile network optimization.

SADIP MIDYA

Sadip Midya has done his M.Tech in Information Technology from Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology, West Bengal (Formerly WBUT). He has also received a M.Sc degree in Computer Science from St.Xaviers College, Kolkata. He was appointed as a Research Assistant from the year 2017 to 2021, under the Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme (TEQIP) (a Govt. of India project assisted by the World Bank) at Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology, where he is registered for completing his Phd Degree in Computer Science and Engineering. He has submitted his PhD thesis to the university and is currently waiting for his degree. His research areas include Vehicular Ad-hoc Networks, Internet of Vehicles and Vehicular Clouds.

Mr. Midya has taught for 3 years in Netaji Nagar Day College (Affiliated to Calcutta University) as Guest Lecturer in the Computer Science Department. He developed a keen interest towards research during his M.Tech days where he authored as many as 6 international conference papers and 1 national conference paper in the final year of his M.Tech degree. He was also awarded a minor project grant from TEQIP for continuing his M.tech research on “Efficient Handoff management in Vehicular Adhoc Networks”. His research work includes the study of Nature Inspired Algorithms and their applications in the domain of Internet of Vehicles and Vehicular Clouds. He has authored over 20 publications in several international journals and conferences.
